Amélie is a welcome burst of Gallic good cheer, a bubbly, charming, madcap romantic comedy played out in the Paris of 1997. It’s an amazingly joyous film, a whirligig of fantasy, satire and romance. It revolves merrily around a sprightly young mademoiselle who works as a Montmartre waitress and believes in love, voyeurism, anonymous philanthropy and sinfully mean practical jokes.
Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet trains his camera on a ravishing human sight: his star Audrey Tautou, who has perhaps the most ravishing French gamine eyes and irresistible smile since Leslie Caron in the 1950s. Amélie gives us the Paris – and the mad, beautiful young Parisienne – we look for in dreams.
– Michael Wilmington, The Chicago Tribune

The ByTowne doesn't have a parking lot of its own, but denizens of downtown can usually find street parking close by fairly easily.
If you're not keen to troll for a parking space, or if you're running late, we recommend the parking garage at Loblaws. It's covered, heated and safe – and just half a block from the cinema. The best part: they charge just $2 flat rate after 6pm on weekdays, and only $3 all day on Saturdays & Sundays.

This web site is very useful, but the hard copy of the ByTowne guide still has its merits. People rely on it and love it. Plus, its calendar pages can be pulled out and posted on your fridge door, something that we still can't achieve with the web site.
