Mommo (The Bogeyman) poster art from TurkeyCan a boy be a big brother, a father, a mother and a luminary all at once? For young Ayşe, the answer is yes. In fact, as far as she is concerned, her big brother Ahmet, who’s nine years old, is afraid of nothing at all. But the truth is, Ahmet is a child too, with his own fears and misconceptions about the world around them.

Their father Kazım has gone off to marry another woman and left the two children to their fate with Hasan, their crippled elderly grandfather. But in spite of everything, the siblings, determined to stay together no matter what, never seem to lose hope.

Set in a small village in Anatolia, this simple, poignant tale portrays the gritty realities of rural poverty, and the soaring power of the love between between a brother and sister.
