The lights will come on again!

The ByTowne is now closed. But there's good news!

After the pandemic has been brought under control,
new management will take over the space and the ByTowne will re-open.

It may take a while for pandemic restrictions to be eased enough
that a feasible number of patrons can be allowed to watch a movie again,
but the new owners are working towards that day.

Kinderblock 66: Return To Buchenwald

Presented by the Jewish Federation of Ottawa as part of Holocaust Education Month.

Poster art for Kinderblock 66Kinderblock 66: Return To Buchenwald, is a feature-length documentary film that tells the story of the effort to save over 900 youth and children who were imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp during the Holocaust. The film follows four child survivors as they return to Buchenwald to commemorate the sixty-fifth anniversary of their liberation.

Additionally, the film sheds light on the efforts undertaken by the communist-led underground in Buchenwald to save the young boys who began coming to the camp in large numbers at the end of 1944.

A major story line of the film is about the attempt to have the block elder of barrack 66, the ‘children’s block’ in Buchenwald, recognized as a Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial.
