Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts 2018

All five nominees plus two bonus shorts!

By Monday morning February 25th, the Oscars for the 2018 film year will have been handed out and most of us will have caught up to the nominated features that we wanted to see.
To keep the Oscar excitement alive for just a bit longer, expand your viewing list to include some short films: the winner of the Best Animated Short Film Oscar, plus the other four nominees in the category. (To make the showss into feature length, there are a couple of bonus shorts, too.)

Poster for the Oscar Nominated Animated Short FilmsThis year’s nominees for Best Animated Short Film include three films with Canadian connections: Animal Behaviour, by Vancouver-based Alison Snowden and David Fine; Weekends, by Hamilton-born animator Trevor Jimenez; and Bao, a Pixar production directed by Toronto-raised Domee Shi. At press time, we don’t know which of the nominees will get the gold statuette, but we can do the math: there’s a 60% chance that the winner will be Canadian!

Running time of this year’s Animated Shorts show is 75 min., and the Ontario Rating Code is likely to be PG; the show is not likely to shock your children, but the topics are mostly for grownups.
