This is more than a concert film.
Baz Luhrmann revisits his audacious film “Elvis” with “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert”. This filmfeatures long-lost footage from Presely’s legendary Las Vegas residency in the 1970s, woven together with rare 16mm footage from Elvis on Tour, and precious 8mm from the Graceland archive, plus recordings of Elvis telling “his side of the story.”
The film expertly balances rehearsal clips—showing a cheerful and goofy Presley—with live performances that range from powerful to rushed. At times, he struggles to keep up with the demanding schedule, performing at least two shows most days. Highlights include “Polk Salad Annie” and “Burning Love,” recorded in early 1972. The film also includes glimpses of excited celebrity fans and acknowledges Presley’s transformation from a controversial figure to a showbiz icon.
