Set in post-war Bosnia, The Track follows three teenagers—Mirza, Zlatan, and Hamza—chasing their Olympic dreams on the crumbling luge track of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games. Guided by their devoted coach, Senad, their training becomes a powerful metaphor for rebuilding both lives and community in a country still scarred by war and burdened by staggering youth unemployment. Spanning five years, this gripping and heartfelt documentary captures the boys’ diverging paths through triumphs, setbacks, and personal transformation. A Hot Docs favourite, The Track is an inspiring, deeply human story of resilience, ambition, and the enduring spirit of Sarajevo.
The Track is screening as a part of this year’s International Film Festival of Ottawa. Before the feature film, enjoy Canadian short film Dome (dir. Mave Ky).
