It’ll be a very spooky afternoon at the movies with this signature 1933 adaptation of the H.G. Wells story!
Claude Rains excels as the titular mad scientist in his breakthrough role as mysterious scientist Jack Griffin who discovers a serum that makes him invisible.
Covered by bandages and dark glasses, the scientist arrives at a small English village and attempts to hide his amazing discovery. He soon realizes, however, that the same drug which renders him invisible is slowly driving him insane and capable of committing unspeakable acts of terror.
Director James Whale’s (Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein) film features groundbreaking special effects, and boasts dark humour and surreal sequences make this a wickedly eerie, genre-defying treat even nine decades on.
