In 1976, Tom (Coogan) arrives in Buenos Aires to teach at a prestigious English boarding school, where political violence looms heavily. When a coup d’état shuts down the school, Tom seeks refuge and distraction in Uruguay. unexpectedly rescues an oil-covered penguin during a romantic beach walk. This devoted creature becomes his companion, symbolizing hope and resilience.
