Goethe-Cinema presents Yesterday Girl
This series is presented by the Goethe-Institut Ottawa in partnership with Bytowne Cinema and German Films, Germany’s film marketing agency and a strong partner of the Goethe-Institut worldwide, to bring you some of the most successful German films over the past seven decades.
Anita (Alexandra Kluge) is a young German Jewish woman from the GDR who arrives in West Berlin to set out on a new life. Weaving her way through a tempting capitalist society for the first time in her life, she quickly falls under the influence of the West’s consumerism and its desire for instant gratification.
With a semi-documentary, “Yesterday Girl”, renowned author and filmmaker Alexander Kluge’s feature film debut, helped launch the New German Cinema movement.
