Double Vision: They Live

Double your Vision, Double your fun!

Do you like genre films? What about genre films that have a thematic connection, thoughtfully paired for your viewing pleasure? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, our new series, Double Vision, is for you!

This month: alarming alien frequencies!

We'll begin the night with a film that asks the question: what happens when Rowdy Roddy Piper runs out of bubblegum? Spoiler alert: he kicks ass!

A rugged loner John Nada (Piper) stumbles upon a terrifying discovery: ghoulish creatures are masquerading as humans while they lull the public into submission through subliminal advertising messages. Only specially made sunglasses make the deadly truth visible. It’s up to Nada and friend Frank (Keith David) to expose the conspiracy—but not before one of the longest, greatest fight scenes in cinema history.

"Submit" to John Carpenter's rousing, hilarious, and still-prescient sci-fi satire that's made to be watched with a crowd.

Double Vision: TerrorVision

Double your Vision, Double your fun!

Do you like genre films that have a thematic connection, thoughtfully paired for your viewing pleasure? If you answered “yes”, our new series, Double Vision, is for you!

This month: alarming alien frequencies!

We'll finish off the night with a film that explores what happens when extraterrestrial beings use the power of television against us!

The Putterman family (including Mary Woronov, Gerrit Graham, and Diane Franklin) are excited to install a state-of-the-art satellite dish in their backyard. Through a cosmic accident, a wayward monster's energy is beamed across galaxies, into the satellite and onto their television set. The Puttermans don't notice any changes, only better reception and a strange monster continually appearing on the screen.

But when that monster leaps off the screen and into the Puttermans' living room, terror erupts, as it needs to feed on humans for its survival!

Don't miss this hidden gem of '80s trash!

National Canadian Film Day: Strange Brew

Celebrate Canadian film AND Canadian headgear! Wear your favourite toque for Canadian Film Day, eh!

A Canadian classic that follows lovable hosers Bob and Doug McKenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) on an epic adventure soaked with beer and filled with doughnuts.

In their quest for free beer, the bumbling brothers wind up working at the Elsinore Brewery where they uncover a mind-control plot spearheaded by Brewmeister Smith and involving a member of the Elsinore family. Hilarity ensues as the boys attempt to foil the Brewmeister’s sinister plan to take over the world.

Though the film appears at first glance to be a bonehead comedy, it's actually a deceptively clever farce based on William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Long before Wayne and Garth or Beavis and Butt-Head, there was Bob and Doug. Canada is proud to call them our own.

This is a FREE screening!
